OBITUARY--KERNS
William Lafayette Kerns, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Kerns was born in Clinton County, Mo., Dec. 16, 1851. Died at the home of his nephew, J. H. brown, March 27, 1919 at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 11 days. His father, mother, four sisters and one brother preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Lydia A. Erickson of Mead, Washington; Miriah E. Jacobs of York, Neb., and one brother, John Kerns of Oskaloosa besides a number of nieces and nephews and friends. He came to Kansas in the fall following the death of his parents in the year 1879 to make his home with his sister, the late Mrs. W. M. Brown, north of Oskaloosa. He made that his home for twenty years. Then he moved with his nephew, F. M. Brown to Ozawkie township and remained there four years. Then moved back to Oskaloosa township and spent two years, then moved back to Ozawkie township and spent four years. When F. M. Brown moved to Oskaloosa he then went to make his home with another nephew, A. H. Brown where he spent eight years. Then went to Ira Brown's another nephew and spent a year. The last year of his life was spent at the home of J. H. Brown. He had been in failing health for some time yet he was very patient never complaining of any suffering. He made a profession of Christ at an early age and united with the Methodist Church at Kerns Chapel in Missouri.
