Forrest E. Altemose, 86, of Brodheadsville, died Saturday, Feb. 26 in the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre.

He was the husband of the late Ethel V. (Mosteller) Altemose.

Born in Little Mexico, he was a son of the late Edward H. and Nettie (Freeman) Altemose.

He was a self-employed truck driver for 50 years before retiring in 1996.

Forrest was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Purple Heart Club.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Congregational Church in Bartonsville and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Stroudsburg.

He is survived by two sons, Henry F. Altemose and his wife, Joan, of Kunkletown and Dale W. Altemose and his wife, Marlene, of Stroudsburg; a daughter, Charlene Burger of Effort; two brothers, Herbert Altemose of Hartsville, S.C., and Freeman Altemose of Stroudsburg; a sister, Arvilla Van Buskirk of Simpsonville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Rusty, Bruce, Scott and Joy; two step-grandchildren, Miranda Lewis and Mathias Myrthel; six great-grandchildren, Darrin, Derrick, Samantha, Shelby, Scott and Sierra; a great-great-granddaughter, Cheyenne; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Mosteller and a sister-in-law, Emma Bartholomew. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Kenneth Altemose and by a sister, Julia Hillyard.
