Charles "Dick" Heller, 93, of Shell Rock, formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, March 24, at Shell Rock Care Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Fayette, son of Charlie and Leta "Fern" Spatcher Heller. He married Phyllis Niemann on Dec. 24, 1942, in Duluth, Minn. She died in April 2003.

Mr. Heller graduated from West Union High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He farmed and was a machinist at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 1976. After retirement the couple spent the winter months in Brownsville, Texas until 2003.

Survived by: two sons, Doug of Oelwein and Matt (Gloria) of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Alanna and TJ Heller of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Maria Heller, daughter of Rex, of Waterloo; two great-grandchildren, Jonathen and Calvin Davis, both sons of Maria; a daughter-in-law, Shirley (Paul) Regenold, wife of Randy, deceased; a half sister, Alice (Payne) Hughes of Huntsville, Texas; and an aunt, Irene DeBoy of Davenport.

Preceded in death by: three sons, J. Arthur "Pug," Randy and Rex.

Services: 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery, Fayette. Public visitation will be held after the service at Boike's Trailside Inn, 152 S. Main Street, Fayette.
