Mary May Schiller, 94, Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the F.W. Huston Medical Center in Winchester. She was born November 17, 1918 at Girard, the daughter of Ora Emmett and Jessie Mary Sullivan Roberts. She was a 1936 graduate of Girard High School and attended Pittsburg State University. Mary had lived in Oskaloosa since 1942. She retired in 1978 after serving eight years as Jefferson County Clerk of The District Court. She also co-owned and operated along with her husband, the Oskaloosa Independent, the Winchester Star, and the Nortonville News from 1958 to 1968. She had also served as an Elementary School teacher in Oskaloosa and in rural schools in Crawford County from 1942 to 1948. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 62 in Oskaloosa and the Oskaloosa Study Club. She was a longtime supporter of the Oskaloosa Public Library and she served on the first Library Board of Directors. She was married to John P. Hoskinson on May 16, 1946 at Kansas City, KS., he preceded her in death on September 1, 1968. She was married to Elmer A. Schiller on June 6, 1970 at Oskaloosa, he preceded her in death on August 9, 2002. She is survived by one son, Harold L. "Hal" Hoskinson, Berryton, one daughter, Jane Hoskinson, McLouth, one step-son, Elmer Schiller, Jr., Oak Park, CA., one step-daughter, Jeannette Murphy, Silverdale, WA., four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Roberts. At her request, Cremation is planned. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Inurnment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
