(Last name information sent by JB Hamp #49483701)
He was the son of Christian & Elizabeth (Leonard) Hamp, in 1860 he presumably was living in Lancaster County, although he cannot be found in that census.
A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted in Lancaster October 10, 1861, at the overstated age of eighteen, bound for Co. K, 79th Pennsylvania Infantry, but his father found out and traveled to Pittsburgh to abort his son's military adventure. A year later and by then of age, he enlisted in Lancaster . . . He mustered into federal service that day at Harrisburg as a private with Co. B, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pennsylvania Infantry). On June 1, 1864, he transferred to Co. D, 190th Pennsylvania Infantry, to complete his term of service, and honorably discharged per general order June 1, 1865.
He died in Philadelphia General Hospital of "general arteriosclerosis."
