Mrs. Catherine Nelson, 83, of 422 North Ninth street, lifelong resident of the county and widow of Horal Nelson, veteran Manitowoc printer, died this morning at the home. Until recently she had enjoyed good health despite her advancing years. She was stricken seriously ill with a heart attack only a few days ago.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at nine o'clock from the Sacred Heart church. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson, nee Catherine Smoke, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Smoke, was born in Two Rivers in 1856. When she was 10 years of age her parents moved to this city. She was married here in 1875 to Horal Nelson, one of the early day printers and publishers of the city.

Mrs. Nelson was always active in church and charitable circles. She was organist at the St. Boniface church for years before establishment of the Sacred Heart parish on the northside. When the latter church was organized she transferred to the Sacred Heart church. She was a member of the Altar society and also the Women's Relief Corps. Mr. Nelson died Nov. 23, 1938.

Survivors are a son, William, with whom Mrs. Nelson made her home, and a sister, Miss Rachel Smoke, also of this city.

The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Tuesday noon until the hour of the services Wednesday.

The Altar society of Sacred Heart church will recite the rosary at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and will attend the funeral in a body.
