Mrs. Catherine A. Baughman, who has been helpless for more than a month from the effects of a paralytic stroke, died at 10 P. M. Wednesday, in the 74th year of her age. Her maiden name was Smith and she was born and raised in the East End of this county. When she was 15 years old she married Mr. John Baughman and for 55 years she made him a helpmeet in deed and in truth. He preceded her to the tomb four years and since his death she has gone gradually down. Five children blessed their union, three of whom are living, Messrs. S. H., J. K. and M. S. Baughman, all excellent men and worthy citizens. Mrs. Baughman had been a member of the church for 59 years and since 1836 had held her membership in the Stanford church. Always in her seat when well and never missing an opportunity to do good to others, her example was of incalculable benefit and her influence of inestimable value. She was conscious of her approaching end and prepared for it as one does to make a long journey, getting her house in order and arranging all the details. Truly a mother of Zion has been called to her reward and her loved ones, while sorrowing, do not weep as those without hope. They know that she has gone to a better land, where she is waiting and watching for them to join her in everlasting praises to the Redeemer. The funeral will be preached at her late residence, the home of Mr. Smith Baughman, at 10 A. M., to-day, after which the remains will be brought to Buffalo Cemetery for interment.

The will of Mrs. Catherine Baughman was probated and Mr. S. H. Baughman qualified as executor, J. K. and M. S. Baughman, also named, declining to qualify. Her estate is divided among her three sons and the children of the late Henry Baughman, being willed to the latter as a separate estate, not subject to the debts of the persons they may marry.

Her daughter E. A. in the 1850 census was Eliza A. Baughman and she married Joseph H. Rout (memorial 91828102) 11 January 1855. She was his first wife and is probably buried at Buffalo Springs but I can't find her.
