Mary Magdalene Campbell Ellis ~
My Precious Mother
I LOVE YOU MOM WITH ALL MY HEART

Mrs. Mary Magdalene Campbell Ellis, 84, of Harmony, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, July 19, 2012. She was born on January 26, 1928, in Harmony, NC and was the daughter of the late George Bradly Campbell and Georgia Dora Sharpe.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn Eugene Ellis, who died on April 21, 2006 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts; two sister, Esther Evelyn Moore and Martha Florence Snow; two brothers, George Hue Campbell, and Wayne Delano Campbell.

She is survived by her sons, Rex Bradley Ellis, of Harmony, and Glenn Steven Ellis and daughter-in-law, Brenda Lee Buchanan Ellis, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; a granddaughter, Alexandra Elizabeth Ellis Ayers and son-in-law, Douglas Craig Ayers of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a great grandson, William Craig Ayers; a sister, Lessie Williams, of Charlotte, and a brother, Luther Enoch Campbell, Sr., of Harmony; three sister-in-laws, Martha S. Campbell, of Harmony, Laura W. Ellis, of Statesville and Kathalene H. Ellis, of Statesville; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was an honor student and graduate of Union Grove High School, and graduated with honors from Charlotte Business School. She worked as a seamstress at Stimpson Hosiery Mills, Inc. in Statesville and at Nebel Knitting Mill, in Charlotte, NC. She was also worked for the Credit Bureau of Charlotte. In Kentucky; she was the oldest student in her graduating class, at Madisonville Vocational School, receiving her degree as a Licensed practical nurse (LPN). She was employed in nursing at Logan Memorial Hospital, in Russellville, Kentucky, Sparks Nursing Center, Inc., in Central City Kentucky and in areas of private duty nursing throughout Kentucky.

She lived an exemplary life of care and giving. She opened her home to all that needed a place to stay and a meal to eat. Her oldest son writes, "Steven and me are much the better for her and our dad's actions. We learned to respect others believing they had something good to offer in our life journey. Mom loved her family and friends and enjoyed talking to them when the occasion presented. Today I visited mother's Kentucky home and as I moved from room to room I saw vegetables that she had canned setting on the shelves ready to be taken down and served for a meal. My emotions swelled up inside as I thought how hard she worked to preserve the produce of dad and her garden."

She was a life long member of the Zion Baptist Church in Union Grove and was a member of the General Convention of Swedenborg Churches in the United States and Canada for many years. Her oldest son, Rex, is a retired RN, and her youngest son, Steve, is a former certified school teacher and a retired minister of the Swedenborg Church.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Zion Baptist Church, 714 Union Grove Rd, Union Grove, NC 28689, with Rev. Dr. Joey Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to service on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM at the church.
