John "Henry" was the oldest child of Heinrich C. Lenz and his first wife, Dorothea Sievers. He was born in Germany, October 22, 1852. When he was one year old, in 1853, the family came to the United States and settled at Carlinville, Illinois. In 1878, he moved with his father and family to Sedgwick County, Kansas. John Henry stayed at Wichita, where he ran a Bakery. He married Mary E. Anderson (1851-1900) on August 18, 1881 in Wichita, Kansas and they had two children, they were: 1. Leotos, (1885-1914). See was a nurse a Lawrence, KS. 2. Henry LaRue, (1889-1959). Married Nora Loper (1884-1967). He later farmed near Belle Plaine, in Sumner County, Kansas, where his first wife passed away on July 22, 1900. Several years later,he moved to Strong City, Kansas, where he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. He then married Bertha (nee Dickson) Turley at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, on July 22, 1912, and to this union six children were born, they are: 1. Lorence, (1914-1919). 2. Florence, (1916-2005 ), married James Shiek. 3. Bertha Lucille, (1919-2012 ), married Charles Horlacher. 4. LeRoy, (1919-1920). 5. Charles, (1921-1997), married Barbara McDaniel. 6. Carl, (1923- ), married Carlene Duewell. The two sons that preceded John Henry in death are buried at Strong City, KS. John "Henry" passed away on Sept. 11, 1934 and is buried at Strong City, Kansas.
