Eastland, Tx. - Neta Fay Massengale Parsons, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Ranger Care Center in Ranger, Texas. Visitation was Wednesday from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Eastland City Cemetery with Dr. Shawn Brewer officiating.

Neta Fay was born on December 22, 1931 in Eastland County to Waverly and Juanita Higginbotham Massengale. She was a 1951 graduate of Eastland High School, where she was a cheerleader and very active in the Maverick Band. She loved being an Eastland Maverick and was very active in the Eastland Alumni Association, hosting class reunions for many years.

She married Henry (Fate) Parsons on June 16, 1951 at her parents' home in Eastland. After his service in Korea, they lived in Eastland, Iowa Park and Irving before returning permanently to Eastland in 1969. She was an avid artist, entering many art shows and teaching private art lessons for many years. Many of her paintings hang in homes throughout the area. She was a past president of the Eastland County Art Association, past president of Siebert Elementary PTO, and former member of the Eastland Civic League. She was also a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a longtime member of the Marjorie Young Sunday School Class and loved going to the "eat-outs" while she could still participate. She was known as "Maw" to many around the area, especially her grandchildren and their friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Waverly and Juanita Massengale, and her husband, Fate, who died on January 8, 1995.

She is survived by two sons, Michael and wife Debbie of Eastland and Mark and wife Vicki of Austin; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Parsons Maynard and husband Jason of Eastland, Andy Parsons and wife Tonya of Mineral Wells, Gregory Parsons of New York, Melissa Parsons, and Brian Parsons of Austin. She was very proud of her seven great-grandchildren, Caiden, Rianna, Maddie Jo, Dylan, Emerson, Breanna and Kendall. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gail Dennis of Eastland and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the Marjorie Young Sunday School Class and to the amazing staff at Ranger Care Center who cared for her the past eighteen months.
