April 25 following a lengthy
illness.
He was born at Red Ash,
and was a son of the late
Robert Payne and Bertha
Bertha Ellen Vance Griffith, both
Tazewell County natives.
He had made his home in
the Richiands area all his
life and was a miner for the
Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation
at Seaboard No. 1
mine at Seaboard, for 15
years. He was a member of
the United Mine Workers of
America, Local Union No.
1760 at Seaboard.
He was a member and
Past Master of the Richiands
Lodge No. 318 AF & AM,
the O'Keeffe Royal Arch
Chapter 26, Tazewell, and
the Kazim Temple and Scottish
Rite Bodies of Roanoke.
He served in the U. S. Army
and was a disabled
veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors are his wife,
Mrs. Mary Lou (Sue)
Taylor Griffith; one son,
David J. Griffith, Richiands;
his step-mother, Mrs.
Mary Jane Griffith, Raven;
three sisters, Mrs. Garman
(Elsie) Lester, Bastian,
Mrs. Hubert (Zella) Lester,
Tazewell, Mrs. John (Jean)
McPherson, Mount Vernon,
KY; two brothers, William
T. (Pete) Griffith, Gosport,
IN, Robert (Sam) Griffith,
Martinsville; one granddaughter,
Sterling DaVon
Griffith.
Funeral services will be
conducted April 28 at 11 am
at the Hurst-Scott Funeral
Chapel in Richiands with
Rev. Grady McGlothlin,
Rev. Stan Morris and Rev.
J. C. Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in the
Greenhills Memory Gardens
at Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers will be: K. C.
Jones, Ronnie Jones, Roby
Perry, Ira Perry, John
Honaker, Wayne Honaker,
Jim Ball and Clyde Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will
