Two Millbrook residents died Sunday morning in a head-on collision on Route 44 near the intersection of Route 44A. Charles Donnelly, 46, of Crescent Avenue, and Paul G. Winter, 22, of Franklin Avenue, were killed in the 6:50 a.m. accident. According to state police reports, Winter's car was traveling east on Route 44 and crossed the center line, colliding with Donnelly's westbound automobile. Both men, the only occupants of the cars, were taken to Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie where they were pronounced dead by Dr. James K. Bang, state police said. Donnelly was a lifelong resident of Dutchess County and is survived by his wife, Janet, two daughters, Eileen and Leigh, a son, Edward, and several nieces and nephews. Donnelly, a fuel truck driver for Al Oil Inc., Pleasant Valley, was born in Poughkeepsie Sept. 23, 1936. He served in the United States Marine Corps in 1953 and married Janet Garcia in Brooklyn in 1962.
