Gilbert "Del" Wantland, age 69, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was born on August 12, 1942 in Riverside, California, the son of Gilbert & Mary Louise (Hopkins) Wantland.
On August 13, 1977, Del was married to the former Susan E. Munn and she survives in addition to two sisters, Linda & George Belche of Buford, Georgia and Kay & Dave Brown of Yakima, Washington plus several nieces and nephews.
Del was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sara Louise Wantland and a son, Ryan D. Wantland.
Formerly of California, Del has been a resident of Sheridan since 1993 where he was an administrator for Point Man Ministries.
Del served his country in the Vietnam Conflict with the US Army 1st / 7th Cavalry and received the Purple Heart for injuries he received.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan and the American Legion.
A memorial service beginning at 11:00 A.M. will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan with Pastor Jim Wilcox officiating.  There will not be any visitation held as cremation has already taken place.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial considerations can be made to Special Olympics, 1120 E. Campus Drive, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859 and there will also be envelopes available at the funeral home.
