COLUMBIANA- Odessa Mae Farmer, 95, of Columbiana, passed away early Friday morning, March 27 at Whispering Pines Village.

Odessa was born on July 24, 1919 in Leetonia, a daughter of Harley and Eula (Baker) Cook. She was a life-long area resident.

A graduate of Fairfield Centralized High School, Odessa worked for the Army Corps. of Engineers during WWII at the Ravenna Ordinance Plant. She also worked in later years for the Farm and Dairy as the payroll clerk. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leetonia, and also had attended First Friends Church of Salem.

Odessa enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years, and loved being the room mother for her children while they were in school. She was excellent at sewing and needlepoint, and loved to go shopping. Her main role in the family was as mother and caregiver, to any family member that needed her.

Odessa leaves to cherish her precious memory a daughter, Kristy Simcox and her husband Dan of Columbiana; two sons Dennis and his wife Georgia Farmer of New Waterford and Randall Farmer of Leetonia; sister-in-law Zelda Cook of Columbiana; five grandchildren Jason Simcox, Chrystal Rosasco, A.J. Miner, Kay Pitts, Angel Robinson; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She will also be missed by four nieces and nephews.

Odessa was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Russell and Orel Cook, a sister-in-law Vera Cook, and niece Karen Chamberlin.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 1 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm St., Columbiana, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Friends may call at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the services.

Interment will follow at Columbiana Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers and staff at Whispering Pines Village for the kindness and loving care shown to their mother during the years she has spent with them.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions may be made in Odessa’s memory to the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St., Columbiana, OH 44408 or All Caring Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Suite B-101, Canfield, OH 44406.
