Dorothea Pagel Chilton Times May 9, 1925

At 5:30 on Wednesday morning, April 29th, Mrs. Frederick Pagel died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Harder in Chilton Town at the age of 74 years, four months and twenty-two days.

Dorothea Harbrecht, daughter of the late John and Dorothea Harbrecht, was born at Klingden, Mechlenberg Germany, Dec. 7, 1850. She immigrated to America with her parents in 1854, coming direct to Chicago where they family resided about a year and then moved into the woods of the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, this state. Here she grew to womanhood and assisted her parents on the farm until she was married to Frederick Pagel in the town of Rhine on Nov. 21, 1871.

Following their marriage they moved to Calumet county and located on a farm in the town of Rantoul where they remained until 1882 when they disposed of the same and purchased a farm on the Chilton-Hilbert road now the property of John J. Fuchs. They disposed of this farm in Feb. 22, 1911 and came to this city to reside, purchasing a residence on West School street where they lived until Oct. 17, 1924, when they went to live with their son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Harder.

Mrs. Pagel had not been in rugged health since she underwent an operation some seven years ago, but she was an ambitious woman and never lost interest in the work about the home and garden. During last fall she was seriously ill with dropsy and decided to give up housekeeping and lived with her daughter. She was able to be up and about the Harder home daily and on Tuesday evening she was one of the family circle until 8:00 o'clock when she retired for the night. Her daughter noticed that she seemed quite nervous and at nine that evening Mr. Harder got up and remained with her mother until she passed away.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Wm. F. of this city and Fred W. of Brillion, two daughters, Mrs. Anton Fochs of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Fred Harder of Chilton town. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, four brothers, John Harbrecht of Millhome, Ernest Harbrecht of Neenah, Louis Harbrecht of Cudahy, Wm. Harbrecht of Dorchester, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Teege of Hilbert.
