Mr. Otto "Bud" Barron of Newport departed this life at Newport on Monday, July 16, 2012, at the age of 87. He was born February 15, 1925, at Longview, Mississippi, the son of Solomon and Alma (Swafford) Barron.

Mr. Barron was a World War II Navy Veteran serving as a Navy Seabee, Petty Officer Second Class in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Barron was a lifetime member and Past Commander of Collier-Massey Post #4683 VFW and a member of the Neil-Griffin Post #47 of the American Legion.

Mr. Otto "Bud" Barron married Miss Dorothy Rovene Williams on April 21, 1946, at the Holden Avenue Church of Christ. The couple made their home in Newport.

He retired from the Arkansas Employment Security Division at Newport after 31 years of service, 21 of those years he was manager.

Mr. Barron was a faithful and devoted member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ at Newport. His devotion to Christ was not limited to his service to the Church. He and his wife, Rovene, worked side by side on 35 overseas mission trips, including work in Ukraine, Caribbean, Guyana, and the Pacific regions. Sharing their faith with people around the world was, for them, truly a labor of love.

Known by all for his kind, gentle, and giving spirit, he was always willing to help anyone in need from his closest family and friends to a stranger he just met. Mr. Barron, his outgoing personality, and genuine, hearty laugh will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Troy Barron and three sisters, Arlice Bridges, Lois Gabbert, and Arlene Barron.

Mr. Barron is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Rovene (Williams) Barron of the home; one son, Ron Barron of Little Rock; one daughter, Dorothy Barron Lanehart and husband, Daniel, of Little Rock; and two grandchildren, Lori Bigboy and husband, Thomas, and Steven Sandh and wife, Trisha; two bonus grandchildren, Lance Lanehart and Ty Lanehart and wife, Karen; 8 great grandchildren, Jonathan Lanehart, Timothy Bigboy, Jeremiah Bigboy, Naomi Bigboy, Abigail Bigboy, Ezekiel Bigboy, Otto Sandh, and Silas Sandh.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, July 19, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. J. L. May officiating. Interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are John Chronister, Marshall Stites, Bob McCollum, Harold Rutledge, Vernon Smotherman, and Charles Burrow. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Brownd, T. A. Brown, Rusty Bellinger, Bob Swink, Raymond Davis, and Gene Moss.
