Mr. Henry Clay Bennett died at his home 3 miles West of Cane Valley, on Tuesday afternoon, August 13. He had been in failing health for the past two years, but his condition was not considered serious until recently when it was learned that he was suffering from cancer of the stomach. He was under treatment at Pope's Sanitarium in Louisville until three weeks ago.

Mr. Bennett was born April 8, 1872, in the community where he lived his entire life. He had been a member of the Cane Valley Christian Church for many years and was a leader in its affairs. He was one of Adair County's most prosperous farmers and was a valuable citizen who will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but by all who knew him.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bettie Smith Bennett; four children: Mrs. Mollie Farris, of Greensburg; Mrs. Mattie Butler, of Columbia; Messrs. Joe Bennett and Lawrence Bennett, of near Cane Valley. Three small daughters preceded him to the grave many years ago. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Edward Garnett, Marvin, Virginia, and Jessie Lucille Farris; Dorris and Louise Butler; Paul, Levitor, and Lois Bennett. One brother, Mr. Allen Bennett and four sisters, Mrs. Luther Curry, Mrs. Homer Edrington, Mrs. George Kemp, all of Cane Valley, and Mrs. James Garnett, of Romine, also survive.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. H.J. Conover. Interment was in the family cemetery near the home.
