Son of John Wasson & Dorothy (Little) Wasson, Husband of Margaret (Dorn) Wasson, Father of John.
James Wasson fought as a young man not yet 15 years of age in the Battles of Freeman's Farm and Bemis Heights during the Saratoga Campaign. He served in the Fifth Company of the Second Regiment (Schenectady District), Albany County Brigade, New York State Militia. James was present for the surrender of General "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne and his entire British Army on Oct. 17, 1777. In 1779 James served as a private in the Fifth New York Continental Regiment at the Battle of Newtown (New York), during General John Sullivan's Expedition against the Iroquois Indians. On Oct. 25, 1781, he fought in the Battle of Johnstown (New York), the last major battle of the American Revolution. After the war, James was appointed Captain of the Fifth Company in the Schenectady District Regiment of the Albany County Brigade of the New York State Militia.
