Gilbert "Bud" Betz, 94, formerly of Mendota, died March 14, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Mr. Betz was born July 17, 1917 in Mendota to Ezra C. and Charlotte (Pohl) Betz. He married Rosella Herrmann on Sept. 28, 1947 in Mendota. She preceded him in death on July 5, 1996. Mr. Betz was a 1935 graduate of Mendota High School and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He farmed in the Mendota area prior to retirement and previously attended St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. He lived in the Quincy Veterans Home for the past six years.
