Kirk J. Smith Dies at Hospital
Kirk J. Smith, 79, a resident of Brainerd for 70 years, died early this morning at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Mr. Smith, who lived at 908 South Eighth Street, was born in St. Paul, Feb. 8, 1895.
He was a member of St. Francis Church, Elks Lodge, a veteran of World War I and a past commander of the Brainerd American Legion. He was commander of the Legion when the annual Duck Feed was initiated in 1924.
Surviving are his wife, Irene, three sons, William, Kempton, Ill., James, Deerfield, Mass., and Patrick, Brainerd; two sisters, Mrs. M. L. McClaren, Torrance, Calif., and Miss Alice Smith, Lomita, Calif. and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis McEnery officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Tuesday until time of services Wednesday. An Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and a parish prayer service will begin at 8 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 04 March 1974)
