Obituary of Mrs. C.J. Hart

Mrs. C.J. Hart, for quite a number of years a resident of this place, passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Frank Chesser in Ottumwa at 5:15 o'clock Thursday evening, January 13th, l916, aged almost sixty-two years.

Catherine Jane Maring was born near Centerville, Iowa, in 1854. In 1874 she united in marriage to Archie Hart, who for some time was a blacksmith at this place. To Mr. and Mrs. Haft was born three sons and seven daughters—ten children altogether. One son and two daughters have preceded the mother in death, leaving the following seven children to mourn her loss: Mrs. Frank Chesser of Ottumwa; Mrs. Fay Christie of Davenport: Miss Jeanette Hart of Kankakee, Illinois; Mrs. Minor of Lakonta; Mrs. Azel Shilling of Fredric; Samuel and Frank Hart of Ottumwa, the latter of whom is taking a college course in Chicago. She is also survived by two sisters and five brothers.

The subject of this obituary united With the Christian church in the year 1870.

Her husband died at this place a number of years ago.

Mrs. Hart was taken sick at her home here about two months ago, suffering from pneumonia, and was on the road to recovery when she took a relapse and was taken to the home of her daughter in Ottumwa about six weeks before her death. The remains were brought to Eddyville by auto for burial Sunday. The procession being made up of autos. After funeral services had been conducted at the M.E. church at two p.m. by the pastor Rev. E.W. Day, the remains were laid to rest in the family burial ground in Highland cemetery.

Mrs. Hart was a kind hearted woman and a good friend and neighbor, and her death is regretted by many friends at her home here.
