Charles Francis Rafford, Straits Turnpike, Middlebury, production Supertendent at Dooval Mfg. Co., Naugatuck, died at his home Tuesday evening after a long illness. Born June 30, 1895 in Mattitick, L.I. he was the son of the late Thomas and Martha (Bodge) Rafford and had lived here for the past fifteen years. Before him employment with the Dooval Co., he served for 18 years as master mechanic with the New Haven Co. in Waterbury and New Haven. Mr. Rafford was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church, Corinthian Lodge of Masons, North Haven, and the Masonic Veterans association. He was vice -president of the Hillcrest Fire District, Middlebury and a member of the Quassapaug Yacht Club. Prior to his illness, he was active in the Middlebury baseball leagues. He was veteran of World War I, serving as a sergeant in the Mechanical Aero Squadron. Survivors are his wife Mrs. Viola(Russell) Rafford; Middlebury; a daughter Mrs. Robert O'Dell, Boston Mass; a son Charles R Rafford, Middlebury; three brothers, Albert Crocker, Cranbury N. J. , Joseph H. Rafford, Hamden, and Minot J. Rafford Mattituck L.I.; a sister Miss Lida Rafford, Brooklyn, N.Y. ; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 70 Central Ave., Waterbury, Rev William H. McCance, Middlebury Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, New Haven. Members of the Corinthian Lodge will conduct services Thursday at 8p.m.
