Charles Henry Jones Sr died at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. He was a devoted husband of 50 years and a loving father of five girls and one boy and grandfather to a host of grandchilden. He was employed at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, where he quickly rose through the ranks, ending his career there as a supervisor in 1982. He moved on to work for American Tobacco Company in a similar capacity until his stroke in 1994.

During his long career in the tobacco industry, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning several businesses: a Ford dealership in Mississippi, Friendly Grocery, Halifax Laundry, The Time Machine Arcade, F&G Grill, Hair Classics Beauty Salon and rental properties throughout Petersburg. Moreover, he was a skillful carpenter and electrician and would oftentimes hone these skills around the house by expanding his home for his family with the help of his son and several uncles and cousins.

Charles was a natural athlete playing baseball through many of his years. He was also an avid musician where he was lead singer and played the guitar for, "The Jumping Jivers," frequently referred to as "The Biggest Little Band in Virginia."
