Orangeburg, 15 Jan - John D. Fogle, one of the oldest and most prominent farmers in the "Fork" section of Orangeburg county, lived a long and useful life in this community until death came last Tuesday after an illness of three weeks. He was 74 years of age and leaves a large family connection. He is survived by his widow and five children as follows: John M. Fogle of Arizona, J. W. and W. L. Fogle of the "Fork," Mrs. M. Kingman of Columbia and Mrs. R. O. Hughes. Two brothers and four sisters also survive the deceased, they being J. N. and L. D. Fogle, Mrs. S. C. Hayden, Mrs. Porcher Irick, Mrs. E. E. Rentz and Mrs. Ann Steadley. The funeral services, which were held at St. George Baptist church, were performed by Revs. J. R. Smith and J. W. Kenney. The funeral was largly attended. Mr. Fogle was a gallant Confederate veteran, enlisting at the beginning, served through the entire bloody contest. He was a good man, true to his word and a steadfast friend. He was well known in his neighborhood and that section as well as this county has lost an excellent citizen. He was buried in the St. George church graveyard. © The State, Columbia, SC, 16 Jan 1910
