He had been in ill health for a year. He was born February 3, 1878, a son of Alfred and Maria Eldred Eldred, near Gilbert Lake. He was twice married. His first wife, the former Miss Carrie Eldred, Laurens, died December 3, 1901. He married Mrs. Ethel Sponable of Cooperstown, December 2, 1942. He was a retired farmer and had lived in Laurens for 10 years. He was a member of Laurens Grange and had served as master for six years, a member of the National Grange and had held the office of Pomona Grange treasurer for two years ... Surviving, besides his wife, are four daughters, Mrs. Smith George, Mrs. Steward Card and Mrs. Kenneth Gladstone, New Lisbon, and Mrs. Lester Bennett, Eatontown, N. J.; two sons, Alfred of Oneonta and Carl of Wells Bridge; nine grandchildren ... Burial was in Oneonta Plains Cemetery."
