Joliet Police Department Patrol Officer Jonathan E. Wood Walsh, age 27, passed away Friday, August 20, 2004 in the line of duty from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident while responding to an emergency call. Born April 7, 1977 in Blue Island, IL,Officer Walsh joined the Joliet Police Department in February, 2001, and was a certified member of the Bicycle Patrol and also served on the Gang Violence Suppression Unit. He was a founder and member of the Joliet Police Department FNG Softball Team, and a member of the International Police Mountain Bike Association. He previously served for two years as an officer with the Burr Ridge Police Department. A graduate of Shepard High School, Palos Heights,Il. he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Governors State University, and was pursuing his Masters Degree in Business Administration, previously at Lewis University, and at Western Illinois University at the time of his passing. He also completed numerous seminars and advanced training, actively pursuing his professional education as a police officer. The fruit of his spirit was his compassion for other men and women and his desire to help people. Officer Walsh was dedicated to serving the east side community.
