SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Ruth Avery, 74, of Simonton Lake, Elkhart, died Friday in Elkhart General Hospital after a five-month illness. Formerly a resident of South Bend, she was born April 16, 1892 in South Bend. She moved to Elkhart in 1956 from Mishawaka.
She was married June 16, 1915 in South Bend to Ross Avery, who survives along with six sons, Francis of South Bend, Richard and Wilfred, both of Osceola, James of Edwardsburg, John of Mishawaka and Joseph of Marietta, Ga.; three daughter, Mrs. Marie DeJack, of South Bend, Mrs. Jean Perkey of Elkhart and Miss Arlene Avery of Osceola; 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Heston of Lindsay, Calif. and Miss Genevieve Hickey of South Bend., and one brother, Marvin M. Hickey of South Bend.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hickey Funeral Homes and on Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m.. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart.
