Our angel mother and her Cec, our "goodly parents", are together again. Mom was born December 9, 1922 in Murray, Utah, to Thomas Kime Baker and Lillie May Berger. She grew up on Germania Avenue in her beloved Murray. While attending Murray High School, she met a "tall, skinny, redheaded boy" Cecil Eugene Olsen, whom she married on June 21, 1939. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom and Dad then devoted their lives to their family, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and to their country. Mom's service included callings as Jr. Sunday School Coordinator, Stake and Ward Relief Society Presidencies, years of Temple Service and missions with her eternal companion to Palmyra, New York and Tampa, Florida.
Her many talents included the gift of the written word, music, sewing, baking, sports and games of all kinds, where she taught sportsmanship and integrity.
Mom's passion in life was to nurture and teach her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren each of whose names she knew and could tell you. She lived to see her family grow to 200 members. Our lives will continue to be blessed by her love for each of us.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Cecil Eugene Olsen; her parents; brothers, Bud Baker, Jim Baker, Ray Baker, Bill Baker; baby brother, Calvin Baker; and sister, Irene Matthews. Mom leaves a legacy of posterity through her children, Robert (Sylvia) Olsen, Dan (Janice) Olsen, Joan (Gary) Card, Jean (Keith) Thomas, Tim (Patricia) Olsen, Barbara (Kelly) Maudsley, Jan (Brent) Lloyd, Hans (Kathy) Olsen, Carilee (Kerry) Ellis, Mark (Robyn) Olsen. We are grateful to Mom's church leaders, neighbors, friends and relatives who shared our love for her and showed it often by their many visits and acts of kindness.
Services will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at the Westland 7th Ward, 7115 S. 3200 W., West Jordan. A viewing will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, and at the church on Monday one hour prior to services. Internment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
