Daughter of John N Hobson (of Virginia) and Mary A Stone (of New York);

Sister of Minnie Aurelia Agnes Hobson (Mrs. William Armstrong Wallace).

Evelyn was born in Richmond at the beginning of the Civil War....many of the family records of that time were destroyed by the fires in Richmond.....in 1870 Evelyn and her sister Minnie were living in an Orphanage run by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Richmond.

Evelyn later moved to Bedford County and in 1878, at the age of 19, she married William Bruce Chewning, a Widower at the time....they would have four children together and then divorce. He would go on to remarry and have many more children.

Mother of Minnie Mae Chewning (Mrs. Emmett Taylor Simpson), Pearl Evelyn Chewning (Mrs. James Lewis Smith), Frederick Bruce Chewning (Wife, Bessie Mae Hughes) and Jesse Uriah Chewning (who died at the age of 26).

Evelyn had lived for a time in Montgomery County, Indiana, where her youngest two children were born... she then moved with her four children to Lynchburg, Virginia, to be close to her sister Minnie......Evelyn would then live the remainder of a very long life in the city of Lynchburg, living close to her children and grandchildren.

She worked most of her adult life as a Dressmaker.

....Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and friend to many. She is lovingly remembered.

Evelyn Reuelma Hobson Chewning died at the age of 91 and is buried near many of her children and grandchildren.
