Mervin served in the 19th Field Artillery Battalion , Separation Point - Camp Campbell Kentucky, date of induction 19 September 1944 and date of separation 23 November 1945. Military Occupation was Cannoneer, Military Qualification Marksman Rifle. Decorations and Citations were European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal WD Cir 326 1945.
Mervin was a 45 year employee of American Saint Gobain Glass Factory, he was employed both in the Pennsylvania and the Okmulgee factory.
Survivers include two sons, Fredrick James Sterner and Mervin James Sterner Jr. both of Okmulgee; two daughters, Donna Lee Rodgers of Garfield, Arkansas, and Debbie Ann Walker of Okmulgee; five grandchildren Michael Scott Rodgers of Reading, Pa., Shelly Rae Wright of Tecumseh, Ok., Anna Louise Cruce, Billy Christopher Sterner, and Tracie Michelle Walker, all of Okmulgee; four great-grandchildren, Richard Kyle Wright and David Blain Wright of Tecumseh, Ok., Arielle Stormie Lee Cruce and Alec Thomas Byrd of Okmulgee; two sisters, Glenna Richwine, and Joan Peters of Belle Vernon, Pa.; five brothers, Donald Sterner, Alvin Sterner, Roy Sterner, and Bill Sterner, all of Belle Vernon, Pa. and Lewis Sterner of Okmulgee.
Mervin was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Jane Sterner; two brothers, Robert Sterner and Clifford Sterner; one sister Alverda Helmken; and parents Ada and James Lawhead Sterner.
The ceremony will be officiated by Rev. David Long at the Kelley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.
