James Baker "Jim" Widenhouse, 84, of Spartanburg, S.C., formerly of Kannapolis, NC, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Spartanburg. He was born September 26, 1927 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Thomas M. and Lottie Baker Widenhouse.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Phillip, Jake, Thomas, Eugene and Robert Widenhouse and a sister Edna Carpenter.

Jim was owner and operator of Jim Widenhouse Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership in Kannapolis for many years until 1982. He had been living in Spartanburg since 2000.

He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy.

He was a 1944 graduate of Cannon High School and a 1949 graduate of Elon University.

He was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church in Kannapolis where he had been a former Sunday school teacher and member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a past member of the Kannapolis Masonic Lodge and a past member and past president of the Kannapolis Lions Club. He was an avid fan of Duke University Athletics and a lifetime member of the Iron Dukes Association.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Neal Brower and Rev. Sam Story. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 prior at Whitley's.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sechler Widenhouse, a son, Marty Widenhouse (Beth) of Spartanburg, a daughter, Ann Widenhouse of Spartanburg, two grandchildren: Olivia and Coleman Widenhouse, a brother, Buford Widenhouse (Yvonne) of Baltimore, MD. and a sister, Frances Frauendorfer of Burlington, NC.
