Patrick died age 17 after being "Shot Accident[ally]", per the records of Shockoe Hill Cemetery, where he was originally buried. His remains, along with those of Charlotte Reed Poythress (d. 1880, age three months), were disinterred and taken to Hollywood on 28 October 1901.
