TISCH MILLS WOMAN BURNS IN HOME
Found Dead by Caller At Home Tuesday
Mrs. Mleziva, 71, Believed To Have Clothing Set Fire By Hot Lard Dead from burns which she had suffered and from the shock, Mrs. John Mleziva, aged Tisch Mills woman, who made her home with her son Alois on the old homestead, was found in her home yesterday by a caller who had business with the son. Mrs. Mleziva had apparently made an effort to extinguish the flames which had enveloped her but her feeble condition and advanced age, coupled with the shock, made the effort futile. When found, the flames still wrapped Mrs. Mleziva but the struggles of the aged victim had ended.
Discovery of the tragedy which was made by a Kewaunee man who had visited the home to see Mr. Mleziva, prevented the destruction by fire of the dwelling as he extinguished the fire and then hurried to summon aid. Physicians who were called said that Mrs. Mleziva had evidently died from the excitement and shock and not from the burns although her body was severely scorched.
Theory of Accident
Mrs. Mleziva had apparently been preparing some cooking and it is believed that hot lard which was on the stove had spattered her clothing to cause ignition or that she had been too near the flames.
This is the theory of a physician and members of the family but not a certain explanation of the tragedy although it was clearly an accident.
Resident There Long Time
News of the tragedy cast a pall over Tisch Mills as Mrs. Mleziva was one of the oldest residents of the section and had made her home on the same farm for years. Four daughters and two sons survive her, being Mrs. A. Dufek of Denmark, Mrs. Anton Wavrunek, Eaton, Mrs. Frank Schweiner and Mrs. Frank Swoboda of Stangelville, and Wencel at Mishicot, and Alois, who made his home with his parents.
No Inquest To Be Held
No inquest will be held over the death of Mrs. Mleziva, there being no question but that death was due to accident.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning from St. Mary's church at Tisch Mills of which the decedent was a member. She was also a member of the Rosary society of the church. Services will be held at 10 and burial will be at Tisch Mills.
