MRS. CLARENCE BAKER DIES
WIDOW OF ASSISTANT POSTMASTER WAS 74

End Comes in Wichita, Where She Had Gone to Visit Son- Funeral Here Sunday


Mrs. Lily Beryl Baker, 73, widow of Clarence Baker, and former Carthage resident, died last midnight in St. Joseph's Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Mrs. Baker, a resident of Tulsa, had been visiting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Baker in Wichita.
The Richard Bakers went to Tulsa to spend Mother's day with their respective mothers and Mrs. Clarence Baker accompanied them back to Wichita. She was stricken Tuesday, May 13, and was moved to the hospital. Death was due to coronary thrombosis and arteriosclerosis.
She was born in Mt. Rose, Missouri January 18, 1874 and when a small child her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Mealy, came to Carthage. She was married May 8, 1901 in Carthage to Clarence Baker. Mr. Baker was assistant postmaster here for many years. They lived in Okmulgee and Henryetta, Oklahoma prior to going to Tulsa. Mr. Baker passed away November 26, 1945. A son, Chester Baker, preceded his mother in death.
Surviving besides the son, R. D. Baker, are a sister, Mrs. W. C. Robbins of Okmulgee; a granddaughter, Ethel Louise Baker of Fredonia, KS.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. W. E. Wilson of route 1, a sister of the late Mr. Baker, and Mrs. O. R. Mealy of Carthage, the widow of Mrs. Baker's brother, and the following nieces and nephews: Miss Rachael Thornton, Mrs. George Hancock, Rex Mealey and James I. Mealey, of Carthage, Miss Doris Robbins of Okmulgee, Miss Wilfreda Robbins of Los Angeles, CA., Mrs. Gordon White of Tulsa, Mrs. A. D. Bedford and Francis Robbins of Oklahoma City, Robert Robbins of Russell, KS., Frank Mealey of Bralorne, Canada and Tom Mealey of Clifton, Arizona.
Mrs. Baker was a sister of Mrs. Arch T. Thornton, of Carthage, who passed away in October 1945.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Knell service home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. The Knells went to Wichita today for the body. The relative will arrive here tonight.
