George Frederick Brooks was born January 18, 1883 in Polk County, Iowa. He was the son of James Elder Thompson Brooks and his wife, Catherine Ann "Cassie" (Cunningham) Brooks.

He was a talented individual; an avid photographer developing his own photographs in his own dark-room. He loved to travel taking hundreds of pictures along the way. He could fix anything; was a carpenter and built his own home at 1909 Jefferson Street in Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, he was an accomplished student of the Bible.

His profession was law; he graduated from Drake University Law School in 1913 and began his practice in 1915. He was a candidate for Municipal Judge in 1936; but did not win the election. He was elected Justice of the Peace in 1952.

He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years, serving as District Commander and Specil Merit Badge Examiner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was politically active in the Republican party and was a committee man and delegate to the Reuplican County Convention.

On Jan 12, 1903 he married Maude Ida Wilson of Dallas County, Iowa and lived with her on Jefferson Street in Des Moines, Iowa for 47 years. Maude Ida and George Fredericks Brooks were divorced in 1950; 8 years before is death on April 8, 1958. To this union was born two children: Howard Wilson Brooks and Thelma Pauline (Brooks) Wright.
