Joseph Lockwood Sharber, 90, of 1256 Campground Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at his home. Born in Newland Township, NC, he was the son of the late William David and Bettie Mullen Sharber and was the husband of Evelyn Etheridge Sharber of the home. Mr. Sharber had been a farmer, along with his brother William. He was a life-long member of Newland United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, Mr. Sharber is survived by four daughters, Ann S. Chambers and husband Harold of Elizabeth City, NC, Annette S. Williams and husband David of Belvidere, NC, Laura S. Parker and husband Richard of Elizabeth City, NC and Mary S. Temple of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Florence Norris and Mary Courtney Sharber, both of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, William Sharber of Elizabeth City, NC; eight grandchildren, Lynette Sawyer and husband Kevin, Ashley Williams and wife Katie, Tina Williams, Joseph Parker and wife Elizabeth, Caleb Parker, Jenny Goetz and husband Jason, Andrea Temple, and Lisa Bailey and husband Kevin; and eight great-grandchildren, Jacob and Leah Sawyer, Nathan and Luke Williams, Landon and Olivia Parker and Lillie and Camille Bailey. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Eugene Sharber, Stevie Sharber, Bagley Sharber, Benson Sharber and Fannie Sawyer. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mr. Sharbers' caregivers, Barbara Woodbury, Darlene Lane and Lynette Beasley; Dr. Karl Branspeigal and staff; Albemarle Home Care and Hospice; and Therapy House and staff.

A funeral service will take place Friday, July 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dan Baer officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home; following the service in the lobby of the funeral home; and at all other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Newland United Methodist Church, 1686 Morgan's Corner Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
