Peter was 15 when he became a Private in the Civil War serving in Ohio. He participated in the Gaines' Mill battle at Hanover, Virginia where he was wounded and lay for two days, not knowing if he would live or die. He married Abigail Puffer in 1868 at White's Corners, Hamburg, Erie and moved to Wisconsin. He was a great man with lots of stories that he passed down to others he was in the civil war he was a Military veteran
