John Seldon Nelson
July 10, 1919 - January 15, 2009
Dallas, Texas

John, a gentle man with a generous heart, died January 15, 2009 at the age of 89.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Freytag, Dallas, Texas, and Beverly Nelson, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kurt Freytag, Oakland, California and his wife, Juliana Van Cleve, Hillary Rose, Longmont, Colorado and her husband Mitchell; and a third grandchild, Allison Folks, Portland, Oregon; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin Rose, Elise Freytag and Claire Freytag, all of whom treasure his legacy.

John was born in Rush Center, Kansas, the youngest of twelve children, and, after a childhood on a simple farm in rural Kansas, married Ruth Herbel in December, 1940. Together, they built a family.

John spent his adult life as a master salesman, but the most important thing he did not sell, but rather gave away freely-his love for his family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Monday, January 19 at Wildwood Chapel in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 18 at Restland. Burial in LaCrosse, Kansas at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, when John will return to the wheatfields.
