SPRINGFIELD - Mary Kathryn "Midge" Sgro, 83, of Springfield, died on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Mary Lou's Country Home in Buffalo, IL.
Midge was born on December 2, 1928 in Springfield to John G. and Margaret A. Cooney Jannesse. She married Sam T. Sgro in 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Midge attended St. Joseph's Grade School and Ursuline Academy. As a girl, she won a jacks contest, a talent contest, and sang on the Orpheum Stage, appearing with Major Bowes.
Midge worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company until she became a mother. She was also a Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by her husband, Sam T. Sgro; sons, Mike (Margie) and John; daughters, Pati, Diane (Jim) Davis, Mary (Jay) Shattuck, and Pam Reynolds; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen (Tom, deceased) Halford and Rita (Don) Seiders, all of Springfield; two aunts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
