His father was Zackariah Taylor Eakes and Mother was Margaret Eakes. First wife was Issie Eveline Chipmon and second wife was Eveline (Elvia) Fain. Chester's daughters by Issie Evelyn Chipmon were Frances La Vesta; Ola Mildred; Lozano Bernice; Rosie Bertha; Margaret Willard. Sons by Issie were Leroy Percy and Chester Arthur. Son by second wife Elvia Fain was Edward Lamar. Elvia was married to Sion T. Fain. There was no recorded divorce between Issie Evelyn and Chester Arthur or between Elvia and Sion. In about 1936, he simply deserted his wife and his daughters and sons and secretly left Kemper County, Mississippi with Evelyn Fain and went to Blytheville, Mississippi County, Arkansas and started a new life. It was nearly ten to twelve years before the family knew where they were. Elvia Fain was responsible for his burial and for providing information for his death certificate. Unfortunately, she allowed him to be buried with no headstone. Consequently, we have lost the location of his grave in Maple Grove Cemetery. According to his death certificate which was obtained from the State of Arkansas by his grandson Milton L Jenkins, Chester Arthur Eakes was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery September 7, 1952, three days after his death. However his Middle name should have been "Cleveland instead of Arthur."

In the 1930 United State Census here is the name of Chester and his family at that time. Notice that the last name was spelled "Eaks" but later was spelled "Eakes."
