Geo. A. Carlson Died Suddenly Last Friday

Family, friends and neighbors were shocked last Friday, November 19, when they heard that George A. Carlson had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Mr. Carlson has been living in town the past several years, but has enjoyed good health apparently, and quite often goes out to his farm southwest of town to help with the work there. Last Friday he was working along the road rebuilding some fence, and according to word received here, was driving some steel posts with a sledge hammer. Evidently this was too strenuous work for him and his heart didn't stand the strain. He suffered a sudden attack and fell in the edge of the field, just a few feet from the road. Employees of the DeKalb Co. while working on the DeKalb farm adjoining the Carlson farm, noticed Mr. Carlson and immediately called help, but it was too late, as he had apparently died instantly.

Mr. Carlson was very well known to almost everyone who lives here and who has lived here in past years. He was born in Boone County, but has lived in the Dayton vicinity all of his life, except for a year in Nebraska and a year in Illinois. His ready good nature and dry humor was enjoyed by all his friends. He will be missed by everyone.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Reverend H.A. James officiating. Oak Lodge No. 531 put on the Masonic Rites at the graveside. Swanson and Carson were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife; two sons, Maylon, of Palm Beach, California, and Darrell of Dayton; and one brother Alfred Carlson of Harcourt. Also by many other relatives and friends. Burial was made in the Dayton cemetery.
