Catharine Hauver Ahalt, 100, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick, where she had resided for the past two and half years.Born March 12, 1912, in Myersville, where she lived until 2004, she was the daughter of the late William Eugene and Effie Catherine Deter Hauver. She was the loving wife of the late Bruce Foster Ahalt, who died in 1975. Surviving her are two children, Sarah Hinds and Christopher Ahalt, and wife Susan; 5 grandchildren, Rita Wehrenberg and husband John, Melissa Wirbisky and husband David, Erik Hinds and wife Jill, Samantha Conroy and hus- band Kevin, and Jack Ahalt.; and 5 great-grandchildren, Bryan Wehrenberg, Mark and Joanna Hinds, and Zoe and Tyler Conroy. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Herbert Doggett and wife Florence, brother-in-law Maurice Ahalt and wife Regina, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joanna Doggett, and two brothers, William E. Hauver Jr. and Roland Hauver; and her son-in-law, David Hinds.Catharine was a graduate of Hood College, and was a teacher at her alma mater, Middletown High School, for 37 years. She taught history, government, Latin, and physical education. In her earlier years, she coached a number of girls' sports teams. She maintained close relationships with many of her students throughout her life. She was also the postmistress of the Myersville Post Office during World War II.Catharine was an active, life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Myersville. She served on the Church Council and was Church Treasurer for a number of years.Family and friends may call from 6 - 8 PM Friday, July 13, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville, with the Rev. David Howell and the Rev. Jurgen Hilke officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery.
