Edmonia Carrington Lancaster Metcalf, born November 16, 1892, daughter of the late John A. Lancaster and Agnes Read Lancaster of Richmond, died Friday, April 21, 1989 in a Charlottesville hospital. She was the widow of John Calvin Metcalf, Professor of English and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Virginia. Before her marriage, Mrs. Metcalf taught Latin at St. Catherine's School in Richmond. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Metcalf is survived by a sister, Mary Lancaster Davis of Lynchburg; a nephew, Dr. Thomas Davis of Mountain View, Mo. and a number of cousins. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 24 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville, the Rev. William S. Smith will officiate. Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. The family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice. Hill and Wood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
