Royce Ray Bewley, age 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
Royce was born in Foss, OK, on November 9, 1923 to Winton and Delma Bewley.
The family moved to Arapaho, OK, when Royce was in the ninth grade where he graduated in 1941. Royce attended the Southwestern State College until he was inducted into the Army Air Corp. Royce served in the Pacific with the 30th Bombardment Group as a flight engineer on the B-24 Liberator.
Royce married Gladys Ruth Litke at Langley Field, VA, on February 12, 1945.
Royce was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruthie, parents and brother, Troy.
Royce is survived by his two sons, Jim Bewley and his wife, Miriam of Albuquerque and Steve Bewley and his wife, Phyllis of Ruidoso, four grandchildren, Eric Bewley and his wife, Stacy, Brooke Baldwin and her husband, Jesse, Joey Bewley and his wife, Jenny, and Kristen Bewley, six great-grandchildren, Tryston, Dawson, Faithe, Braydon, Skye and Emma, Carol Bewley, mother of Eric and Brooke, sister, Treva Hill and her husband, Dale, six nieces and nephews, spouses and families and many other family members and friends.
After seventeen years of aircraft work in Wichita, KS, Royce and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1959 where he worked for Sandia National Laboratories for 24 years, retiring in 1983. Royce enjoyed working with Boy Scouts, family camping, bowling and fishing while at the cabin in Cripple Creek, CO, and working as an inventory re-locater specialist for his son's car dealership. Royce and Ruthie were members of Roadrunner Square Dance Club, BPOE Elks Lodge of Cripple Creek, CO, the Roadrunner RV group, FMCA, and a Gold Wing motorcycle club. With his gift of gab he never met a stranger.
Royce was a longtime member of Hoffmantown Church.
Friends may visit French - Lomas Chapel on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at French - Lomas Chapel, with Rev. Scott Sharp officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum on the grounds of Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of NM, PO Box 16232, Albuquerque, NM 87191.
