German Samuel Burgess, a native of Cumberland county, died Friday morning at the Seaway Hospital in Trenton, Mich at the age of 85.
Mr Burgess, a retired coal miner who previously lived on Rt 4, Pikeville, was living in Lincoln Park, Mich with a daughter.
He was a son of the late William and Mary Burgess of this county, and he was a member of the Church of Christ.
Services were conducted at Wester Funeral Home in Pikeville Monday afternoon with burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Gracey, in 1945. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs Dora Rhea Saylors, Lincoln Park, Mi; Mrs Evelyn McDowell, Columbia, SC; Mrs Beatrice Bickford, Pikeville; 2 sons, Buddy, Pikeville; Lloyd, US Army, Ft Stewart, Ga.
