Herbert Cleveland Green, 90, of Duluth, GA died May 18, 2012. The funeral service will be held, Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Herbert Green, a native of Norcross, GA, was born on July 6, 1922, and was raised in Gwinnett County. He attended the Mechanicsville one room school and Norcross High School and served three years in the ARMY AIR CORP in the Pacific during WWII. Herbert began his career at the GMC Plant in Doraville, GA and served as Union Leader in the plant until 1962 when he became a full-time International Union Representative. He retired in 1976 after serving 37 years with the UAW and 48 years on the board of review for the Georgia Department of Labor. He was a member of the Norcross Masonic Lodge # 228 F&AM. Herbert Green was a strong member of the Democratic Party, serving in both Gwinnett County and the State of Georgia. He was elected as a delegate and attended five Democratic Presidential Conventions. He served on the advisory committee for former President Jimmy Carter when he was Governor of Georgia. Herbert Green was an active member of Winters Chapel United Methodist Church for 77 years. Five generations of his family belonged to Winters Chapel. He has served as a Sunday school teacher and chaired various committees at the church as well as served as lay leader. Preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy (Dot) Lackland and James L. Green, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Autince (Tince) Parker Green of Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Ron Letson of Norcross, GA; Terry Green of Snellville, GA; five grandchildren, Mindi Grisham, Ronnie Letson, Jr., Brittany Green, Jenna Green, and Ashley Green, and three great grandchildren, Parker Grisham, Avery Grisham, and Tripp Letson.
