Marian L. Russell, 90, died, Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Labette County Medical Center.
She was born March 24, 1914, on the family farm southwest of McCune to Harve and Winnie (Casey) Long. She grew up there and attended Harley School. She graduated from Parsons High School in 1932. Following high school she taught at Service School for a short time and then McCune and Mulberry. In the 1940s she moved to Pleasanton to teach home economics at Pleasanton High School.
She married William Russell on Jan. 20, 1945, in Pleasanton. He was employed by Gibraltar Mines and worked in various communities around the country. The couple lived in Nowata, Okla., for a short time and then Butler, Mo., before moving to Central City, Ky., in the early 1950s. While in Kentucky, she taught at Central City Elementary School. Following her husband's death on April 16, 1986, she moved to Parsons to be closer to family.
She was baptized in McCune Christian Church. She later transferred membership to New Testament Christian Church in Central City, Ky. After moving to Parsons, she attended First Christian Church. Her hobbies included cooking, baking pies and keeping in touch with her family.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Marie Duroni, on Nov. 6, 1991; and a niece, Carolyn Sue Duroni, on Dec. 31, 1966.
