Greenville boy lost on ocean.
Greenville, O., Oct. 4 -- Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Loy, of 324 West Water street, Greenville, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Staff Sgt. George Loy, 21, was lost on September 30 somewhere in the North Atlantic. The telegram gave no further details.
It is believed that Sgt. Loy, a gunner in the army air corps, was a passenger on an Army plane that crashed into the ocean on route to England as just a week ago he was still stationed at an air base in Maine. The parents received a letter from him last Monday.
That belief is strengthened by the war department telegram which stated that "search had been instituted."
Young Loy spent a furlough with his parents during the week of the Darke county fair, August 22-27, and on Tuesday, August 24 was united in marriage with a Greenville girl, Iliah Young (Munuice Ind).
The Loys have two other sons in service, James Loy, 28, is stationed at an Army air base in Florida, while the other, Technician Paul Loy, 24, serves with an armored unit in North Africa
