No marked grave for either Howard Finney or his wife Sue Smith Finney can be located in LaFayette Cemetery. However, in the Smith Lot (parents of Sue Smith Finney) is a concrete slab with no epitaph in the NW corner and next to this is a space for a grave. This is likely where they are buried.

"The Roanoke Leader" - May 23, 1900:
MR. FINNEY DIED
Early Friday morning, Mr. Howard W. Finney died at the home of his only son, E.R. Finney on College Street, this city. He had been an invalid for some time and death came as a release to him from his sufferings. He had been in
Roanoke only about eighteen months and his remains were carried Saturday to LaFayette, his old home, for interment. For many years Mr. Finney was a prominent and useful citizen of that town and was once sheriff of Chambers County. To his wife and son we offer our condolence.
