He was a member of the Siebenbeurger Club and the Erie Wolverines Motorcycle Club, had been employed for 19 years at Sealtest Foods, and more recently was a partner in Nelson Trucking and Excavating.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Dudek Nelson; two sons, James E. and David L. Nelson, both of Erie; a brother, William L. Nelson of Oregon; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
